DEGATING GANTRY STATION

DEGATING GANTRY STATION

The Degating Gantry Station is a CO2 laser workstation developed by Portlaser as part of a custom engineering project. Designed for the plastics injection industry, it is currently dedicated to the degating (cutting of injection sprues) of high-precision plastic components for the automotive sector. Engineered to meet strict quality and finishing standards, it features a large working area and delivers consistent, high-quality laser cutting results in demanding industrial production environments.

Description

Gantry laser workstation for degating plastic components in the automotive industry

Equipped with a 200 W CO2 RF laser in a gantry configuration, this workstation features two dedicated nests for precise positioning of injection-molded parts: one for a large plastic component and another for a smaller one. The smaller part’s nest is equipped with a servo-controlled rotary system, which moves the piece with millimeter precision in coordination with the laser movement to achieve flawless cuts. Both pieces can be cut in a single cycle within a large work area of 2000×1600 mm and a maximum part height of 250 mm. This workstation allows manual operation or integration with a robotic arm for automated loading and unloading, offering full flexibility in production.

The Degating Gantry Station is fully enclosed with an automatic door and classified as a Class 1 laser, ensuring maximum safety. An automatic conveyor removes cutting residues to an external container, keeping the workstation clean without interrupting production. A touch-screen control console provides full operational control and real-time feedback, while the onboard computer manages laser operation and executes the programmed cutting patterns.

Sensors and safety features:

  • Safety barriers
  • Sensors for part presence
  • Sensors for detecting cutting defects

Designed for adaptability, it can be reconfigured for different plastic components by creating new custom nests and programming the corresponding laser paths, making it a versatile solution for demanding industrial applications in the injection molding sector.
